The 44 hour journey

Posted on August 8, 2009 12:27 PM

After a an eventfull 44 hour journey I have returned to Okinawa. The journey started at 0500 am EST. on Wednesday 5 August and finished 1400 pm JST on Friday 7 August.

As I arrived at the Raleigh, NC Airport I was instructed that my scheduled flight to Toronto had been cancelled and I would be booked on another flight going through Chicago to Tokyo then Okinawa. So I was happy until I arrived at Chicago O'Hare Airport and went to see what gate my flight to depart from and the monitor showed no gate but 4:30 pm in the remarks column. At this point I went to the Airlines customer service counter to see if I could change to another flight going to Tokyo but all flights were booked. We started boarding the flight at 4 pm and finally took off from Chicago at approx. 1800 CST. Knowing that we would not make our connection in Tokyo I had already made plans to stay the night in Tokyo. We were put into a hotel that was paid for by the airlines and returned to the Tokyo airport to continue our journey to Okinawa. Our reservation was for 1320 pm but we arrived at the airport at 0945 and booked on a different flight leaving at 1035 and we made a mad rush to check in our baggage and through security with only a minute to spare and made our return to Okinawa.

On a trip that took us through the cities of Tokyo, Toronto, Raleigh/Durham, Chicago, Atlanta, Chapel Hill, Greensboro and many little towns in between it was definitely a great trip home to visit with family and friends.

A special Thanks to Mom, Dad, Randy and Sheila, Lisa,Todd, Cody and Macy, Matt, Amber and Cooper, Heather and Cheyanne and all of the other family and friends who we had dinner with and some great times.

Thanks

Keith
