Two wins vs. Sendai
Posted on November 25, 2008 8:09 AMWow! that is about all I can say. What a weekend!
Saturdays game started out with us trailing early in the game by as much as 22 - 9 with 3 minutes to play in the 1st period. We closed to within 25 -18 at the end of the first as we went on a 9 - 3 run. The second period saw us get our Offense going and closing out the second on a 26 - 19 run to tie the score at 44 at the Half.
Sendai went on a 15- 8 run fueled by the inside play of their big men and led by 69 - 60 at the end of 3.
The 4th saw us come out and close their lead to 67 - 69 with 7:34 to play and then we went on another 7 - 0 run in which we lead 74 - 69 with 6:02 to play. Our lead was 84 - 73 with 1:45 to play. Some costly turnovers and careless fouls helped them to close within 84 - 77 with 1:26 to go. Sendai put in to play their foul game and we were not able to connect on our free throws down the stretch and they closed within 88 - 83 with .48 in regulation. We were fouled again and could not connect and they scored making it 88 - 85 with under 24 seconds to play. They fouled us again and put us at the line and we missed the front end of the one and one and Bobby St.Preux came down and hit a 3 with 4.9 to go.
The first O/T saw a see saw battle which ended with a 93 tie.
The second O/T was more in our favor as we were able to closeout the game at 108 - 105 as we were able to take care of the ball better.
Jeff Newton finished with 40 pts and 30 reb.(Amazing!) and Yosuke Sugawara did an outstanding job defending Bobby St.Preux and a great team effort to pull this one out.
The second game was alot better as we executed our Offense more proficiently. We jumped out to a 17 - 4 lead with 5:53 to play in the 1st. Sendai closed out with a 8 - 15 run to close within 25 - 19 at the end of the 1st.
We started with a 7 - 0 run to start the 2nd and they went on a 11 - 19 run to close out the period and within 43 - 38 at the half.
The second half saw us hold the lead up until the 4;46 mark and they tied the game at that mark at 75. The next two possesions saw us get big three point shots from TK(Aoki) and Bryan, in which we took a 81 - 75 lead with 3:21 to play.
Sendai closed within 83 - 82 with .56 to go and we were able to closeout the game as Jeff Newton dunked the ball with .03 to go on the clock. Sendai put up a desperation shot as time expired but came up short. Final 87- 84.
Thanks to all of the great Kings fans who came out and supported us this year.
Keep up the great support.
